There were quite a few of these massive, abandoned hulks around Bangkok. It’s like the builders got to the top then just walked away and left it. There’s still bundles of rebar just poking out the top and unfinished concrete pours. As you walked around the bottom of it you felt like the whole thing may just crumble and fall.
Another theme of this blog. Abandoned buildings.

Bangkok is full of uncompleted skyscrapers and assorted architectures that stand as monuments to the economic crash of ‘97. These two Ozymandian structures cast a cross-hatched shadow through their skeletal frame over the lapsed “Magic Land” (see below). The city is littered with these remnants of fiscal promiscuity even as elsewhere new erections sprout unrestricted like weeds in an unkempt garden.

Magic Land sounds such a…magical place. It’s long abandoned though and lives on Phaholyothin Road with a spattering of พิราบ (or pi-raap, ‘pigeons’). The surrounding grounds appears to have been taken over by PTT, the big Oil & Gas service corporation as a motor-kart circuit. If I had the money I might buy them out and live in it.
